Samuel L Jackson couldn't do it anyway - he's too busy with Snakes on a Plane.

You know, TKAM is just about my favourite book and film ever, and this particular aspect is one of my favourite conversation-pieces. A friend who knew Gregory (and admired him) and I discuss this quite often: "Who in Hollywood, believing he possesses the appropriate nobility, moral righteousness, ethical calmness and star qualities, would have the audacity to cast himself as Atticus in a remake?" and we usually settle on ... Tom Cruise. And then we both gag, vomit and have to get drunk to rid the horrible image from our minds. Love, R xxx

To Kill a Mockingbird was my real life. I grew up in a small town, and it was SO much the same childhood Jem & Scout had. You are so right - don't mess with perfection.
